Biography of Pelevin

Victor Pelevin was born on November 22, 1962 in Moscow. His father, Oleg Anatolyevich, taught at the military department at the Moscow State Technical University. Bauman, and her mother, Zinaida Semyonovna, headed the department of one of the capital's grocery stores.

Childhood and youth

The future writer went to school with an English bias. If you believe the words of some of Pelevin's friends, then at this time in his biography he paid great attention to fashion.

During walks, the young man often came up with different stories in which reality and fantasy were intertwined together. In such stories, he expressed his relationship to school and teachers. After receiving a certificate in 1979, he entered the Power Engineering Institute, choosing the department of electronic equipment for automation of industry and transport.

Having become a certified specialist, Viktor Pelevin took up the position of an engineer at the Department of Electric Transport in his native university. In 1989 he became a student of the correspondence department of the Literary Institute. Gorky. However, after 2 years, he was expelled from the educational institution.

An interesting fact is that, according to Pelevin himself, the years spent at this university did not bring him any benefit. Nevertheless, at this time in his biography, he met the novice prose writer Albert Egazarov and the poet Victor Kulla.

Soon Egazarov and Kulla opened their own publishing house, for which Pelevin, as an editor, prepared a translation of a 3-volume work by the writer and esotericist Carlos Castaneda.

Literature

In the early 90s, Victor began to publish in reputable publishing houses. His first work, The Sorcerer Ignat and People, was published in the journal Science and Religion.

Soon the first collection of Pelevin's stories "Blue Lantern" was published. It is curious that initially the book did not attract much attention of literary critics, but a couple of years later the author was awarded the Small Booker Prize for it.

In the spring of 1992, Victor published one of his most famous novels, Omon Ra. A year later, the writer presented a new book, The Life of Insects. In 1993 he was elected to the Union of Journalists of Russia.

At the same time from the pen of Pelevin came out the essay "John Fowles and the tragedy of Russian liberalism." It should be noted that the essay was Victor's response to the negative reviews of certain critics on his work. Around the same time, news began to appear in the media that in reality Pelevin allegedly did not exist.

In 1996, the work “Chapaev and Emptiness” was published, which was characterized by a number of critics as the first “Zen Buddhist” novel in Russia. The book won the Wanderer Prize, and in 2001 was included in the list of the Dublin Literary Prize.

In 1999, Pelevin published his famous work "Generation P", which became a cult and brought the writer worldwide popularity. It described a generation of people who grew up and formed during the era of political and economic reforms in the USSR in the 90s.

Later, Viktor Pelevin published his 6th novel, The Sacred Book of the Werewolf, whose storyline echoed the actions of Generation P and Prince of the State Planning Commission. In 2006 he published the book "Empire V".

In the fall of 2009, Pelevin's new masterpiece “t” appeared in bookstores. A couple of years later, the writer presented the post-apocalyptic novel S.N.U.F.F, which won an E-Book Award in the Prose of the Year category.

In subsequent years, Victor Pelevin published works such as "Batman Apollo", "Love for the Three Zuckerbrins" and "The Caretaker". For the work "iPhuck 10" (2017), the author was awarded the Andrey Bely Prize. By the way, this award was the first uncensored award in the Soviet Union.

Pelevin then presented his 16th novel, Secret Views of Mount Fuji. It was written in the genre of a detective story with elements of fantasy.

Personal life

Viktor Pelevin is known for not appearing in public places, preferring to communicate on the Internet. It is for this reason that many rumors have arisen that it allegedly does not exist at all.

However, over time, people were found who knew the writer well, including his classmates, teachers and colleagues. It is generally accepted that the writer is not married and does not have accounts in any of the social networks.

The press has repeatedly mentioned that the man often visits Asian countries, because he is fond of Buddhism. According to some sources, he is a vegetarian.
