What is spam? Today this word is found more and more often. In this article we will consider the meaning of this term and find out the history of its origin.
What does spam mean?
Spam is a mass mailing of advertising correspondence to persons who have not expressed a desire to receive it.
In simple terms, spam is the same annoying advertisement in the form of e-mails that takes a lot of time from the user and makes it difficult to find the information he needs.
WHAT DOES SPAM MEAN IN GERMAN?
The word "Spam" itself comes from the name of the canned meat, which was continually advertised after the end of World War II (1914-1918).
Large quantities of canned food left over from the war filled the shelves of many stores.
As a result, advertising turned out to be so intrusive and aggressive that with the advent of the Internet, the word “spam” began to call “unnecessary” and uninteresting products or services.
The concept gained particular popularity with the emergence of e-mail and social networks. Unauthorized bulk advertising and malicious mailings are commonplace today.
Many e-mails even have a separate "Send to spam" tab, where the user can redirect all messages "cluttering" his mailbox.
It is worth noting that so-called spammers also spam blogs, forums, and even send SMS messages to phones. In addition, spam can manifest itself in the form of calls to telephone subscribers.
Spammers can leave links in messages, emails or comments asking them to go to their site or buy products. It is important to note that such spam messages can harm your computer or wallet.
By clicking on the link, the user may well pick up a virus or lose electronic money by filling out a "bank" questionnaire. Attackers always act professionally, doing everything possible to keep the victim unaware of the fraud.
Never follow links in spam emails (even if it says “Unsubscribe” is a trap). Phishing is also a big threat to users today, which you can learn about here.
From all that has been said, we can summarize that spam can look like annoying, but harmless messages, and also pose a serious threat to the device and personal data of a person.
