Mr. Bean Is a comedic character created and embodied by Rowan Atkinson in the television series of the same name and in several films. Mr. Bean has also been the protagonist of a series of computer games, web videos and promotional videos.
She always appears in front of the audience in her unchanged outfit - a brown jacket, dark trousers, a white shirt and a thin tie. He is not talkative, humor around the hero is built through his interaction with the outside world.
Character creation history
As mentioned earlier, behind the mask of Mr. Bean is the British actor Rowan Atkinson, who independently invented this image during his student years.
An interesting fact is that the prototype of the character was Monsieur Hulot from the old French comedy "Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot", embodied by the artist Jacques Tati. The name of Mr. Bean (Bean) is translated into Russian as "bob".
According to the authors, the character's name appeared shortly before the premiere of the first television series. The directors tried to name the hero so that his name was associated with vegetables. One of the options was - Mr. Colflower (cauliflower - "cauliflower"), but in the end they decided to stay with Mr. Bean.
The famous eccentric was seen in 1987 at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Three years later, the premiere of the humorous series "Mr. Bean" took place, which in its genre had a similarity to silent films.
Bean practically did not speak, making only various sounds. The plot was entirely based on the actions of a character who constantly found himself in difficult situations.
Image and biography of Mr. Bean
Mr. Bean is a naive fool who solves various problems with very extraordinary methods. All the humor emanates from his absurd actions, which are often created by himself.
The character lives in a modest apartment in north London. The television series does not mention where Mr. Bean works, but it is clear from the feature film that he is the National Gallery's Overseer.
Bean is very selfish, fearful and not confident in his own abilities, but meanwhile he is always sympathetic to the viewer. When he doesn't like something, he immediately takes action, not paying attention to other people. At the same time, he can deliberately do dirty tricks and harm those people with whom he conflicts.
Mr. Bean's appearance is quite original: bulging eyes, slicked hair and a ridiculous nose, which he often sniffs with. His best friend is Teddy, the teddy bear, with whom he hangs out and gets to sleep every day.
Since the hero has no other friends, he periodically sends postcards to himself. According to the official biography, Mr. Bean is not married. He has a girlfriend, Irma Gobb, who is not averse to marrying him.
In one of the episodes, Irma hints at a gift to the guy, wanting to get a gold ring from him. The scene takes place near a shop window, where the ring is next to a photograph of a couple in love.
When Bean realizes that the girl wants to receive a gift from him, he promises to fulfill her wish. The gentleman asks his girlfriend to come to him in the evening, where he is actually going to give her a "valuable thing".
Imagine Irma's disappointment when, instead of jewelry, she saw an advertising photo of a couple in love, which was on the window next to the ring. It turns out that Bean thought that his chosen one was dreaming of a photograph. After this incident, the offended girl disappears forever from the life of an eccentric.
In general, Mr. Bean is an antisocial person, not feeling the desire to make friends or even get to know someone. Interestingly, Rowan Atkinson himself was very worried that the image of his character could harm his personal life.
Nevertheless, everything turned out exactly the opposite. While filming the TV show, he began dating makeup artist Sanatra Sestri. Later, the young people decided to get married, as a result of which they had two children - son Ben and daughter Lily. In 2015, after 25 years of marriage, the couple decided to leave.
In an interview, Atkinson admitted that in Bean, he first of all likes his disregard for the rules, impudence and self-confidence.
Mr. Bean in the films
The television series "Mr. Bean" was broadcast on TV in the period 1990-1995. During this time, 14 original episodes with live artists and 52 animated episodes were released.
In 1997, viewers saw the film "Mr. Bean", directed by Rowan Atkinson. In this picture, many details of the life of the famous character were shown.
In 2002, the premiere of a multi-part animated film about Mr. Bean, consisting of hundreds of 10-12-minute episodes, took place. In 2007, the feature film "Mr. Bean on Vacation" was shot, in which the character wins a ticket to Cannes and sets off. He still finds himself in various ridiculous situations, but always gets out of the water.
Even before the screening of the film, Atkinson publicly stated that this was the last appearance of Mr. Bean on the screen. He explained this by the fact that he no longer wants his hero to grow old with him.
