Valery Alexandrovich Kipelov (born 1958) - Soviet and Russian rock musician, singer, composer and songwriter, working mainly in the genre of heavy metal. One of the founders and the first vocalist of the rock group "Aria" (1985-2002). In 2002 he formed his own rock group Kipelov.
There are many interesting facts in the biography of Kipelov, which we will talk about in this article.
So, here is a short biography of Valery Kipelov.
Biography of Kipelov
Valery Kipelov was born on July 12, 1958 in Moscow. He grew up and was brought up in the family of Alexander Semenovich and his wife Ekaterina Ivanovna.
Childhood and youth
As a child, Kipelov was fond of football and studied music. He also attended a music school, accordion class. It is worth noting that he went there more under the compulsion of his parents than of his own free will.
Nevertheless, over time, Valery became really interested in music. It is curious that he learned to play many hits of Western bands on the button accordion.
When Kipelov was about 14 years old, his father asked him to sing at his sister's wedding with VIA "Peasant Children". He did not mind, as a result of which he sang hits "Pesnyars" and "Creedence".
The musicians were pleasantly surprised by the young man's talent, as a result of which they offered him their cooperation. Thus, in high school, Valery began to perform at various holidays and earn his first money.
Having received the certificate, Valery Kipelov continued his studies at the technical school of automation and telemechanics.
In 1978 he was called up to serve in the missile forces. During this period of his biography, he often participated in amateur music performances, performing songs on holidays in front of the officers.
Music
After demobilization, Kipelov continued to study music. For some time he was a member of the Six Young Ensemble. An interesting fact is that Nikolai Rastorguev, the future soloist of the Lyube group, was also present in this group.
Soon, "Six Young" became part of the VIA "Leisya, song". In 1985, the ensemble had to be disbanded because it could not pass the state program.
After that, Kipelov was offered a job at the Singing Hearts VIA, where he performed as a vocalist. When the musicians from Singing Hearts, Vladimir Kholstinin and Alik Granovsky, decided to form a heavy metal project, Valery gladly joined them.
Group "Aria"
In 1985, the guys founded the Aria group, which released their debut album, Megalomania. Every year the team became more and more popular, especially among young people. At the same time, it was Valery's strongest voice that helped rockers reach great heights.
Kipelov not only performed songs on stage, but also wrote music for a number of compositions. Two years later, a split occurs in Aria, as a result of which only two participants remain under the leadership of producer Viktor Vekstein - Vladimir Kholstinin and Valery Kipelov.
Later, Vitaly Dubinin, Sergey Mavrin and Maxim Udalov joined the team. Everything went well until the collapse of the USSR, after which many people had to make ends meet.
Fans of "Aria" stopped going to concerts, for which reason the musicians were forced to stop performing. To feed the family, Kipelov got a job as a watchman. In parallel with this, disagreements often began to arise between the members of the rock group.
Kipelov had to collaborate with other groups, including "Master". When his colleague Kholstinin, who was then making a living by breeding aquarium fish, found out about this, he criticized Valery's actions.
It is for this reason that when "Aria" was recording the disc "Night is shorter than the day", the vocalist was not Kipelov, but Alexei Bulgakov. It was possible to return Valery to the group only under the pressure of the Moroz Records recording studio, which declared that the disc's commercial success was possible only if Valery Kipelov was present.
In this composition, the rockers presented 3 more albums. However, in parallel with his work in "Aria", Valery began to collaborate with Mavrin, with whom he recorded the disc "Time of Troubles".
In 1998, "Aria" announced the release of the 7th studio album "Generator of Evil", for which Kipelov wrote two famous compositions - "Dirt" and "Sunset". After 3 years, the musicians presented a new CD "Chimera". By that time, a difficult relationship had developed between the participants, which led to Valery's departure from the group.
Kipelov group
In the fall of 2002, Valery Kipelov, Sergey Terentyev and Alexander Manyakin founded the rock band Kipelov, which also included Sergey Mavrin and Alexey Kharkov. Many people attended Kipelov's concerts, since the name of the group spoke for itself.
The rockers went on a big tour - "The Way Up". Just a couple of years later, Kipelov was recognized as the best rock group (MTV Russia award). Particularly popular was the song "I'm Free", which is often played on radio stations today.
In 2005, the musicians recorded their first official album, Rivers of Times. A couple of years later, Valery Kipelov was awarded the RAMP prize (nomination "Fathers of Rock"). Then he was invited to perform at the 20th anniversary of the Master group, where he sang 7 songs.
In 2008, the release of the concert disc "5 Years" took place, dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Kipelov group. During that period of his biography, Valery also performed at concerts of "Mavrina" and sang in duets with various rock musicians, including Artur Berkut and Edmund Shklyarsky.
After that, Kipelov, together with other musicians of "Aria" agreed to give 2 major concerts, which gathered tens of thousands of fans of the legendary group.
In 2011, the Kipelova musicians recorded their 2nd studio album, "To Live Contrary". According to the rockers, "Living in spite of" is a confrontation with duplicity and values that are imposed on people under the guise of "real" life.
The following year, the band celebrated their 10th anniversary with a fantastic concert featuring many hits. As a result, according to the Chartova Dozen, it was named the best concert of the year.
In the period 2013-2015, the Kipelov collective released 2 singles - Reflection and Nepokorenny. The last work was dedicated to the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad. 2015 marked the 30th anniversary of "Aria", which simply could not pass without the participation of Kipelov.
In 2017, the group recorded the 3rd disc "Stars and Crosses". Later, clips were shot for the songs "Higher" and "Thirst for the Impossible".
In an interview, Valery Kipelov admitted that in the last years of his stay in "Aria" he deliberately did not perform the song "Antichrist" at concerts.
According to him, few people managed to understand the main meaning of the composition (the complex relationship between the Antichrist and Jesus), and at the concerts the audience focused their attention on the phrase “My name is Antichrist, my sign is number 666”.
Since Kipelov considers himself a believer, it became unpleasant for him to sing this song on stage.
Personal life
In his youth, Valery began to look after a girl named Galina. As a result, in 1978 the young people decided to get married. In this marriage, the couple had a girl, Jeanne, and a boy, Alexander.
In his spare time, Kipelov is fond of football, being a fan of the Moscow "Spartak". In addition, he is interested in billiards and motorcycles.
According to Valery, he has not consumed spirits for over 25 years. In addition, in 2011 he finally managed to quit smoking. He promotes a healthy lifestyle, encouraging young people to give up bad habits.
Kipelov mainly likes music in the genre of heavy metal and hard rock. He frequently listens to the bands Judas Priest, Nazareth, Black Sabbath, Slade and Led Zeppelin. He calls Ozzy Osbourne his favorite singer.
Nevertheless, the musician is not averse to listening to folk songs, including "Oh, it's not evening", "Black Raven" and "Spring will not come for me."
