Childhood and youth
Yuri's father was cool with his son, practically not taking part in his upbringing. For this reason, the future artist received his mother's surname. Until the age of 4, he lived with his maternal grandparents.
By the time of the biography, Shatunov's parents decided to leave, as a result of which Vera Gavrilovna remarried.
The stepfather also showed no interest in the boy. He often abused alcohol, so Yuri repeatedly ran away from home to his grandmother or other relatives.
When Shatunov was 7 years old, he began to go to a rural school, and after 4 years he continued to study at a boarding school. In 1984, the first serious loss occurred in his biography - his mother died.
His own father did not want to take his son on bail, so his aunt Nina Gavrilovna took up Yuri's upbringing. However, even then the teenager began to run away from home. An interesting fact is that in the period 1984-1985. he wandered through the streets, not wanting to return to his aunt.
In the fall of 1985, a commission was held regarding guardianship over Shatunov. There he was noticed by the head of the orphanage Valentina Tazekenova. The woman showed sympathy for the child, persuading the members of the commission to transfer Yuri to the orphanage she headed.
Soon, Tazekenova was entrusted with the position of director at the Orenburg boarding school No. 2. As a result, Yuri decided to follow his "savior". At the boarding school, he met with the head of the music circle, Sergei Kuznetsov. It was at this time that the history of the legendary band "Laskoviy May" began.
"Tender May"
Kuznetsov was engaged in songwriting, as a result of which he was looking for capable performers among the pupils of the boarding school. Soon he drew attention to Shatunov, who had excellent vocal abilities.
This led to the fact that the man composed especially for Yuri the compositions "An Evening of a Cold Winter" and "A Snowstorm in a Strange City". Soon he collected a group of orphans, calling it "Tender May". As a result, young musicians began performing at discos and other events in the local recreation center.
After that Kuznetsov wrote such famous songs as "White Roses", "Summer", "Gray Night", "Well, what are you" and a number of other compositions that became the hallmark of the newly formed group.
In 1988, the head of the ensemble recorded the debut album "Tender May" with the pupils in the House of Children's Art, where the appropriate equipment and instruments were located. Immediately after the record was recorded, Kuznetsov took it to a kiosk located on the territory of the local railway station.
In the same year, Andrei Razin, who was then the manager of the famous pop group Mirage, heard the songs of Laskovoy May on the train, which greatly impressed him. It is curious that Razin then got off at the nearest station and bought a ticket in the opposite direction - to Orenburg.
A few days later, Andrei reached the boarding school, but he could not find Shatunov. As it turned out, he escaped from school. After some time, Yuri was found and returned back.
Razin began to cooperate with Kuznetsov and his charges, doing everything possible to make Tender May become popular. In 1989, Sergey Kuznetsov and Konstantin Pakhomov decided to leave the team, for which reason Andrei Razin became its leader.
In the shortest possible time, "Tender May" became very famous. The guys began to be active on tour, giving 40 concerts per month. Shatunov's soulful voice fell in love even with those people who listened to very heavy music.
An interesting fact is that during the existence of the collective more than ten soloists took part in it. The band's songs came from every window. At their performances, the guys gathered tens of thousands of fans. There were so many people who wanted to get to the concert that the musicians had to perform the same program several times a day.
Over the years of its activity, "Laskoviy May" has recorded over 20 albums. The group broke up in 1991, shortly after Yuri Shatunov left it.
