What is TIN

What is TIN? This abbreviation can often be heard in conversations with people, as well as on television. But not everyone knows what is hidden behind these three letters.

In this article we will tell you what TIN means and for what purposes it serves.

What does INN mean

TIN is the taxpayer identification number. In simple terms, TIN is a digital code that streamlines the accounting of taxpayers in Russia.

In 1994, in the Russian Federation, there was a need for the formation of a unified centralized register of taxpayers, as a result of which each payer had an individual number - TIN.

Today there is a unified database of tax payers, which is controlled by the Federal Tax Service (FTS). It should be noted that the TIN is assigned to payers only once upon registration.

The taxpayer's TIN is excluded from the register only in the event of his death or the closure of a legal entity. After that, the excluded numbers are no longer used.

It is curious that some citizens, because of their religious convictions, do not agree to acquire a TIN. The government is sympathetic to their choice, not forcing citizens to receive such numbers. For such persons, registration is carried out when providing personal data.

Today, to obtain a TIN, you must register with the Federal Tax Service and this can be done in different ways:

  • by visiting any FTS inspection;
  • by sending the relevant documents to the Federal Tax Service by letter;
  • by sending an application in electronic form to the official website of the Federal Tax Service or "State Service".

You can find out your TIN in two ways - by contacting any inspection of the Federal Tax Service or by going to the official website of the Federal Tax Service ("Gosuslugi").

From all that has been said, we can conclude that the TIN is a simple and reliable way to identify an individual or legal entity. It is issued to the payer once and changes if personal data changes.
