The Hockey Hall of Fame has been located in Toronto for decades, although it originally appeared in a completely different place. The idea to honor the players originated in 1943. It was in Kingston that the list of players worthy of universal veneration was first announced, but after a short time the NHL refused to maintain the hall, after which it was moved to a new location, where it is to this day.
What is the Hockey Hall of Fame like?
The rather impressive building is the largest hockey museum, where every fan can study the historical milestones of the game's changes. Here you can see:
- hockey equipment of different years;
- snapshots from significant games;
- trophies honored by hockey players;
- expositions of the best players;
- cups awarded based on the results of the championships.
The hall of fame committee includes 18 representatives, each of whom nominates players, referees and others who make a huge contribution to the development of hockey for the title of the best. One of the selection criteria is the number of matches played, as well as the heights achieved at the end of the career. The award ceremony is traditionally held in November.
Tourists visiting the exhibition halls do not ignore the hockey trophies. The Stanley Cup is especially popular, with which anyone can take a photo.
Criticism of talent selection
The choice of the committee is often criticized by the public, as the majority of the elected players belong to the NHL, while outstanding hockey players from other countries are often bypassed.
We advise you to look at the Green Vault Museum.
Nevertheless, the Hockey Hall of Fame was not complete without Russian players who showed themselves in all their glory. The first of them was Vladislav Tretyak, later Vyacheslav Fetisov, Valery Kharlamov and others joined the list.
In addition, there has been controversy as to why women's hockey is usually bypassed when selecting talented players.
Recently, they began to be included in the consideration, so the members of the hall were replenished with the beautiful half of humanity.
